The Pureness of Being

Consider, that there existed such a Figure,
So pure, so true - no sin He knew,
For sure His greatness could be no bigger.

So good He was in essence Love.
Yet make no mistake, terror lied in His wake,
When His children transgressed would prove.

A Son, with an innocence that a purity of heart
Imparts,
Would willingly bow to become the created now,
From His pain on the cross He did not run.

A Father - by His very hand,
Led His Son on Earth - saw His birth,
To know His future death. I cannot understand
The mighty depths of God's love above -
The very best.

His Spirit - on Earth He remains
Until near the ending of days,
No Atheist can convince - I'm in it;
But by His works He persuades the better,
For can He not be seen in this letter?

The Turn

How can I call upon Thee, Lord?
Is it even to be tried?
When I've riled, cried, smiled, lied,
Seeking, not You, but to hide.
In all that is unclean in me,
Why not to water, but desert flee?
Can such a memory fail - far too easily,
I turn away from Your help in me.

When I struggle to call upon Thee, Lord,
This is where You come in,
Knowing already what has taken place -
Already knowing my sin.
Hope seems little, yet in truth it is great!
You call my soul - upon me You wait,
Concerned that I'm late - but beginning to learn,
You firstly invite this turn.

The Lightness of Night

It is at night when I seek the light,
Night's calmness stills me within.
See how stars contrast
With shadows of black -
It is brightest when darkness we're in.

It is a strange thing that our souls sing,
When all is quiet and bleak.
Clouds draw away - often go with the day,
Distractions and cares get distracted,
We weaken, although the fact is
Our souls awaken, though we seek sleep.

Let our souls ever see such serenity,
When peace gives voice to Your Spirit.
Let it be clear so we can hear
Your great smallness of voice,
O, if given the choice,
Always darkness, with You within it.

The Art of Conversation

Some at ease - thoughts and words spill
Like water,
There is no, "Should I have, ought I?"
When so freely, unreservedly, happily,
The self-portrait can be seen so rapidly;
Little effort is required - no trouble in getting hired.

Others displeased; words are seldom, like on
Tap,
Thoughts are keen - but held back,
Such is the wavering, the wanting, the effect?
Paintings are not nearly so easily let.
Much effort is needed - to have it allows you to mix upon the palette.

Can all be pleased? Perhaps when thinking how to take it,
We should consider who tried to make it,
Whether assured or certainty low,
If found, this can be seen on show.
Art is such a difficult fixture,
But I've tried to paint a picture.

Yet there is no need for unease, as ability is no concern,
As when to God we come to praise, we turn.
God paints the way
For the words we say,
It matters not if we learn that words fail and we mutter,
As the Artist knows what our heart meant before uttered.

Dark Waters

Who would see
If one tear
Fell in here?

Would someone spy
That in my eye
Some trouble be?

Could someone see
That in the sea,
My own reflections be?

How dark, how deep
The feeling creeps,
Into the heart of me.

The waves toss relentlessly,
Unhappily,
They struggle to their end.

Will moods be ever,
Ending never?
Where will life's journey send?

My way uncertain,
There is a guide
Yet by my side -

Of this I'm certain,
When drowning - call,
But He is with me all.

Imagine

Imagine God really did exist
And He really created the Earth,
It truly was two thousand years
Since the virgin birth.
Jesus, God's Son, came down to save
All people from a mortal grave.

Imagine it's true, though we deny,
It's all false; it's made-up; it's a lie;
The Big Bang, not God, made the Earth,
We don't go anywhere when we die.
If not in this, in the next, we'll regret,
When our Saviour we've met.

Imagine there is life after death,
And there is a Heaven and Hell;
After we struggle to take our last breath,
We fly, to where, who can tell?
Acceptance of Jesus, asked forgiveness for sin,
We will meet Him in Heaven. Imagine.
